Kit Maker FAQ for Potential Customers
General Questions
1I want more details on how this software works.
Please check out our manual here!
2Can I use any Sample Pack? What files/folders will work?
You can process just about any Sample Pack!
There are two ways to process Sample Packs and Expansions:
Sample Pack Mode: Add any Sample Pack folder that contains sub-folders of drum sounds. Subfolders are folders inside the main folder that are called "Kicks" or "Snares" or different categories of sounds.
Maschine Mode: Maschine Expansions (as well as the Maschine factory library) can also be processed. These are Maschine Expansion folders in your Native Instruments directory that typically end in "Library." For example "Conant Gardens Library."
Note regarding Sample Packs:
Sample Packs are folders that contain audio samples (typically .wav files). Sample Packs with categorized folders of drum sounds are automatically made into kits.
Proprietary sound libraries such as Reason Refills, Kontakt files etc cannot be processed by Kit Maker.
Note regarding Native Instruments:
Synth preset expansions (such as Massive Expansions), Kontakt instrument libraries as well as Native Instrument sound libraries that are not Maschine Expansions (sometimes branded as "Komplete Expansions") do not work with our software. The list of Maschine Expansions can be found here.

3Do you provide the samples?
No. This software simply copies and organizes samples you already own. Kit Maker can use any sample packs or sounds from your own sound library. Samples are available at websites such as Loopmasters, Splice and Sounds.com. You can buy Maschine Expansion libraries (now called Komplete Expansions) from the Native Instruments website.
4Are third party Maschine Libraries supported?
The Maschine Library processing mode can only process official Maschine / Komplete libraries. However, you can put together any sample pack's files as a Generic Library and process them that way.
5Does this software make kits for Maschine?
No. Maschine Expansions (now called Komplete Expansions) are popular sample libraries with pre-made kits for various genres. Our software automatically organizes these samples into pre-made kits for a variety of other DAWs and apps.
Note: You will have to own Komplete Expansions (or the Maschine Factory Library) in order to use this feature of Kit Maker.
6Are you affiliated with Intua Beatmaker, Native Instruments Maschine, Ableton Live, Akai MPC or any other companies?
No. We created a third-party, simple-to-use app that facilitates the otherwise tedious process of grouping and laying out sample files that the user already owns. We are not affiliated with any of the software our app helps you use.
7Can Battery 4 Kits Be Processed?
You can process the “Battery 4 Factory Library” folder in Maschine mode and it will convert the kits. However, because Kit Maker is currently only made for 16 pad drum kits, Battery kits of more than 16 sounds will be scaled down to just 16 samples.
8Are my original samples and libraries edited or changed?
No. The app duplicates the files it needs and leaves your original sample libraries untouched. A Kit Maker Kits folder is created with all the new kits organized in folders.
9What audio file formats can I use?
The .wav, .aiff and .mp3 file types can all be used with Kit Maker. Wav files are the most commonly accepted in audio software. Check your DAW's manual to see what audio files it accepts.
10Why is my DAW not supported?
Some DAWs use preset files which are encrypted in a way that we cannot create presets for them. But let us know if you have a request for a DAW preset format in the contact form.
11How do I contact you?
12How Many Computers Can Kit Maker Be Installed On?
You can install the app on up to 3 of your own computers.
13How do I install the latest version?
Our latest install files are always available for customers on our Gumroad page. If you have a Gumroad account, they will be in your product library. If you purchased as a Gumroad guest, check your email for your Gumroad receipt and you will be able to follow that link to get the latest installer.
If you lost your receipt, message us using the Registration Help page and provide the email you used to purchase the app.

14Are my original audio files affected? Or just copied?
Your original files are left untouched, and copies will be made.
Some Ableton users have worried that this will double the file space of their Maschine samples on their computer, but in reality, the drum sounds only make up a fraction of the total file size of a Maschine Expansion. Most of the large files are loops and other files that Kit Maker does not need to copy.

15Are "instrument" presets created (aka "Keygroups")?
Kit Maker does not create instrument presets. But we have a different app, called Preset Maker, which creates melodic and instrument presets from your samples. Check that out here!
Using Kit Maker
2Do I have to use the sample categories you use for your keywords?
The category labels are only suggestions. You can put any samples you want in the folders, and they will match up with their associated keywords/folders. For instance, you could put horn sample sounds in the Percussion folder, and all the pads labeled Percussion would be assigned those horn sounds. This is to allow a wide variety of kit styles. The category labels will be shown on the pads in the interface, but you can ignore the labels and use the different categories however you want.
Note: Do not change the names of the sample category folders or they will not be recognized by Kit Maker.
3I use a custom location for my Ableton User Library, will it still work?
Yes! Just make sure to point Kit Maker to your User Library in the Preferences before processing libraries.
Visit our help article on how to use a custom Ableton User Library in Kit Maker.
